This is one of the toughest but most important times for you to take care of yourself.
Your own needs immediately take a back seat to those of your baby. You may feel anxious about your baby or your ability to care for her. But making sure you’re as healthy as possible is a great way to ensure that you have the most to give to your family. And, of course, you’re welcome to bring your baby along to your appointment.
Postpartum Conditions Treated with Acupuncture include:
Breastfeeding support and milk supply
C-section healing/recovery/scar reduction
Postnatal emotional health: PPD (postpartum depression)/PPA (postpartum anxiety)
Musculoskeletal and pain disorders
Incontinence and other pelvic floor disorders
New moms need support. Lots of support.
If you’re struggling with breastfeeding, the first person you talk to should be a qualified lactation consultant and the second should be your acupuncturist! Lots of people know that acupuncture can boost your milk supply. But did you know that it also help treat blocked ducts and mastitis? Yup, it’s true.
Acupuncture and your pelvic floor.
Postpartum urinary incontinence and pelvic floor issues are WAY more common than anyone admits. For many women these issues resolve on their own within a year of giving birth. But for some people they can linger for years without treatment. Fortunately more and more women are recognising the importance of pelvic floor health and the treatment options that are available.
Clinical trial evidence shows that acupuncture is equally as effective as physiotherapy for treating postpartum urinary incontinence.
Acupuncture is covered by most extended health care plans and MSP if you qualify for premium assistance. Direct insurance billing is available for participating insurers. To find out if I can bill your insurer directly, please ask.
